Bums' Paradise
a documentary film about the Albany Landfill Encampment

For nearly 10 years, an abandoned landfill on the San Francisco Bay is home for a squalid yet utopian homeless community.
"This landfill stands as a brooding monument to obsolescence. What could be a more appropriate refuge for America’s unused people?
Here, they can be hidden away from a society which regards them as a nuisance and an eyesore."
— Robert "Rabbit" Barringer - Albany Landfill Resident - Gracious Host and Narrator of Bums’ Paradise

"Has all the elements of a Hollywood movie: romance, insanity,
addiction, and confrontations with the law."

- Lisa Hom, SAN FRANCISCO WEEKLY
"The overall message of Bums' Paradise is one of hope – something that's
usually lacking when homeless issues are the topic of discussion."

- Cheryl Eddy, THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY GUARDIAN
"Visually appealing, uncontrived and evocative."
- Angela Woodall, STREET SPIRIT
"Bums' Paradise is attracting a burgeoning cult following."

(100 word synopsis)
On a peninsular landfill in the San Francisco Bay, a unique encampment of homeless men and women made a refuge.
For more than eight years they lived there, outside the "American Dream;" in return, they created not only
an alternative society, but also a wealth of art. These accomplishments however, could not avert a devastating eviction.
"This Landfill stands as a brooding monument to obsolescence.
What could be a more appropriate refuge for America's unused people?
